From rail to post each piece of kiln dried Alder wood is handpicked here in Colorado, insuring that your piece will never warp or swell, a common problem found with imports brought from more humid climates. All joints and corners are blocked, glued and double doweled for added durability.
Unlike our pieces, mass-produced upholstered furniture disguises its inferior construction underneath an appealing style or fabric. Mass-produced frames are often made of low quality wood or in some cases made with chipboard to disguise the weight of the frame so consumers may believe it is solid wood. This wood is often wrapped with metal braces and stapled together. While this type of construction will cut the cost it is not worth it in the long run.
All seams and welts are neat, even, and without gaps or loose threads. All skirting is lined, carefully tailored and even, hanging straight and free of puckering. All fabrics we work with are carefully placed and matched with respect to the grain and pattern. Fabric are applied so that stripes and plaids line up at seams. Floral patterns will appear to be unbroken as they flow over cushions, arms, and back.
Springs & Webbing
Often we use a variety of methods of springing our pieces depending on what is the most appropriate for the style and comfort. All webbing and springs are of the highest quality and gauge. The number of springs as well as the way they are attached is equally important to the quality used. Often, well known manufacturers will identify their construction as eight-way, hand-tied coils, however, these coils are pre-tied, and then dropped into the unit. This is quite a bit different from an individually hand-crafted piece. All our springs are individually placed and hand-tied, a process that cannot be duplicated by machine. This process allows movement in all directions, giving seating the most flexibility and comfort insuring your piece
Cushions & Fill
All padding is HR (high resiliency) polyurethane foam used with a cotton Dacron batting which will not shrink, disintegrate or harden. Our foam is designed specifically to keep its shape with heavy use and over long periods of time. Most mass-produced products will use weak and rigid foam and padding which cuts the cost significantly but will often start to break down in less than a year.
All parts of our frames, including the outside backs and arms, are fully padded to create a completely finished look, insuring that no part of the underlying frame is ever noticed.
Our standard seat cushion is constructed using a triple-channeled down proof ticking filled with feathers & down and wrapped around a core of our high quality foam. This option gives structure as well as comfort to the cushion. The channeled casing keeps feathers more evenly distributed but this option will always require some fluffing.
A foam seat cushion wrapped with cotton Dacron is an option that does not require fluffing and will always hold a perfect shape. For loose back pillows or toss pillows we offer a blend of feathers and down as well as a spun poly-silk option.
